Neringa is located in the Curonian Spit in western Lithuania. The city is the smallest in the country. Neringa is only accessible by ferry across the Curonian Lagoon which separates it from the rest of the mainland. Car hire at Neringa is a good way to explore the island, and rentals can be taken across the ferry to the mainland as well.

Neringa is rumored to be named after the child giantess Neringa whose childlike play is supposedly what formed the Curonian Spit. There is no bridge connecting the island to the mainland, but the ferry crossed the lagoon often and daily. Car rental at Neringa are a good way to explore the famous Curonian Spit which forms the shores of the lagoon.

On Neringa is popular tourist spot Nida, a posh seaside resort town which accommodates almost 50,000 visitors a year. Most of the visitors arrive during the peak summer holidays to enjoy the beaches and warm weather. The resort is best known for being family oriented and is frequented by European families with young children. Nida can be reached with cheap car hire at Neringa.

Nida also is a muse for the arts, hosting an annual jazz festival every year since 2000. Other sites in the Baltic seaside town include a museum, a large sundial monument, and neo-gothic style church.
