Palanga International Airport is the third largest in the country. The airport mostly accommodates international passengers arriving to enjoy summer holidays at the resort spots on the Baltic shoreline. Palanga, Nida, and Klaipeda are all serviced by the Palanga airport. Car hire at Palanga Airport is a good way to reach all three of these coastal cities.

One of Palanga’s most unique locations is the Birute hill. According to local legend the Grand Duke of Lithuania forcefully took a local priestess from a pagan shrine on a hill from the region to be his wife. The legend says that shortly after the duke was murdered, and the priestess returned to the hill. The priestess was buried on the hill, which today is named after her. Jonas Basanavičius Street is another popular tourist spot which hosts a carnival each year during peak summer holidays. Palanga, however, is most famous for its beaches and sand dunes. Most tourists flock to the shoreline to sunbathe and engage in water sports. Both are widely available. Hotels range in prices and service, most of which are on or near the shoreline. Car rental at Palanga Airport is also available for visitors who wish to explore the neighboring cities and countryside.
